Juan Díaz is a member of a recognized family of Colombian musicians. The violist has been a member of several orchestras in Argentina, Spain and in his native country, where he served as Principal Viola of the Symphony of Colombia, Cauca Valley Philharmonic and the Colombian National Symphony. Juan has performed as soloist with several orchestras, being a highlight his participation in Der Schwanendreher – a viola concerto by Paul Hindemith – with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia.
He has studied violin with Ernesto Díaz Almeciga, Pablo Saraví and Szymsia Bajour and viola with Sandra Arango and Anibal dos Santos, at the National University of Colombia. Juan has also taken part in viola masterclasses with Thomas Riebl and Joseph Pasquale, violin with Ana Chumachenko and chamber music with the Henschel Quartett and the Jerusalem and Britten Quartets.
Juan has attended festivals such as the Camping Musical Bariloche, the National University of Cuyo and the Internationale Sommerakademie Bad Leonfelden, among others. Under the guidance of the conductors Nestor Zadoff and Luis Gorelik, he participated in various choral and orchestral conducting courses in Colombia and Argentina.
