Marcelo Cunha

Double Basses

Marcelo was born in Belo Horizonte, where he began his studies with Professor Hector Espinosa in the former Scola Cantorum at Palácio das Artes. Later, he carried his studies under Antonio Arzolla in Rio de Janeiro. He has obtained a Licentiate in Music degree from Minas Gerais Federal University (UFMG), of Bachelor in Double bass Performance from State University of University (Unicamp) and of Master in Music from Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio). Throughout his career, he has worked with the symphonic orchestras of Minas Gerais, Campinas and Santo André.

 

The musician participated in masterclasses with Gary Karr, Wolfgang Gutler, Diana Gannett, David Neubert, Milton Masciadri, Fausto Borem and Michael Cameron. Marcelo has appeared in the winter festivals of Juiz de Fora, UFMG, Ouro Preto and Campos – countryside of Rio de Janeiro. He has also attended events like Brasília International Festival, 2nd National Encounter of Double Bass in São Paulo, 1st Research Seminary in Performance at UFMG, 4st International Encounter of Double Basses in Goiânia and Music Festival of Brive-la-Gaillarde, in France.

 

Currently, he’s been also working as a Professor of Double bass at Minas Gerais State University.
