Principal Cello of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic since 2015, Philip’s commitment to diverse musical genres and to educative and community projects have earned him distinction as a performer. He was a USA Department of State Cultural Ambassador to Russia and a guest artist-in-residence at both the Beijing and Shanghai central conservatories, as well as a long-time faculty member of the Académie Internationale Musicale in Provence, France. Founder and Artistic Director of the Quadra Island Festival of Chamber Music, Philip has a solo album of tango music, Bragatissimo, that has been broadcasted around the world, including the NPR-USA and CBC. He collaborated on and composed the theme music to Charlie the Cello, a children’s book and stage production by author Deborah Nicholson that he performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
